This school aims to contribute to the training of scientists in the application of X-ray and neutron diffraction data to energy materials (battery, fuel cells, solar cells, thermoelectrics, etc.), putting the stress in the new improved methods and tools for microstructural characterization and operando measurements made available in the last years.
The event will be divided in two blocks. The first block will be a specialised Diffraction on Energy Materials School. This School will be based on selected lectures together with intensive hands-on sessions using advanced tools for diffraction data treatment either implemented in Rietveld refinement programs, such as FullProf, or available as independent refinement programs such as FAULTS (also included in the FullProf suite).
The second block will be a meeting concern with Diffraction on Energy Materials. This meeting will be organized as a parallel event of the ILL-ESS User Meeting which will take place at the Congress Center WTC (Grenoble). The participants can share their ideas in the framework of the proposed programme.
The Diffraction on Energy Materials School will take place at the Institut Laue-Langevin, in Grenoble, from October 8th to 9th 2018.The Diffraction on Energy Materials Meeting will follow the school from 10th to 12th on the Congress Center WTC (Grenoble).
The school's participants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation at the Diffraction on Energy Materials Meeting organized in parallel at the ILL-ESS User Meeting.
The School consists of 2 days dedicated to acquire a general overview of the tools needed for an efficient use of the FullProf Suite (including FAULTS, Bond-Valence Energy Landscape calculations, etc.) at an intermediate level with a special focus in advanced capabilities for microstructural characterization
Along this school there will be different theoretical modules plus a serie of hands-on sessions for which each participant should bring his/her own laptop with the FullProf Suite already installed.
The School is intended for the ILL-ESS user meeting PhD students, with a basic knowledge on diffraction techniques and crystallography, and also for experienced scientists who wish to get a practical overview of the new important developments in the field that have taken place in the last years.
The maximum number of participants for the Diffraction on Energy Materials School is limited, which ensures the quality of the training provided.
